On displaying “Indigenous Artifacts”

Here’s an analogy and some thoughts from our Karankawa Tribe of Texas Language Keeper, Do’wal Sehi. We invite you to not only ponder them, but to also take them in and to help ensure we all do our part to return/rematriate all sacred artifacts to the lineal descendants of Indigenous Peoples of the particular area from where the artifacts were taken.

**Note: There is no mug…it is clearly referred to as a theoretical example.**

Help us save Donnel Point

The Karankawa Tribe of Texas, The Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe, and Coastal Watch Association along with our relatives and allies would greatly appreciate your help by taking an action to add your name to the letter we will send to the Army Corps of Engineers. Please see below IG post for more information. The Sacred Shores website landing page to take action is https://sacredshores.net/take-action

*** Friendly Reminder: Please submit your written comments before 3:30p tomorrow, August 19, 2025 ***

In our opinion, the City Council should require the developer to do the following:

Consult with representatives from local tribes and Indigenous organizations throughout the planning and construction process

Consult with an archeologist prior to construction on this sacred site

Conduct an archeological survey

Develop an actionable protocol/plan for any discovery of human remains or artifacts

Provide archeological monitoring during construction
